FAQ

How do I change modes between Preservation, Restoration and Enhanced?
During your first run, you should have seen a "squished" blue box. The option was there as a "first boot" choice. To see that box again and change modes, hit G on the keyboard and look for RESTORATION/PRESERVATION and choose ENHANCED.

Don't forget to set Shane's Voice Pack while you're there. :)
I don't hear Shane's Voice Pack? How can I enable it?
This voice pack is exclusive to the Restoration and Enhanced modes of the game. During your first run, you should have seen a "squished" blue box. The option was there as a "first boot" choice. To see that box again and change modes, hit G on the keyboard and look for RESTORATION/PRESERVATION and choose RESTORATION or ENHANCED. The voice pack option is just below it.
My high scores are disappearing! What's going on?
The high score tables are segregated between modes. Preservation, Restoration and Enhanced all have different high score tables due to the nature of game changes.
My high score didn't save!
Make sure you enter your name on the high score board and always leave the game cleanly to ensure your high scores are saved. Use ESC on computers/web or the view button on Steam hardware.
I don't have the music controls I've seen in the videos. What's going on?
Preservation mode is a faithful port of the OG game. You cannot use that custom music offering in that mode. Flip to Restoration or Enhanced for that option.
I see text in the game about Joystick Port 1 and Port 2 ... What's that all about?
This is the original text from the Amiga game (which indeed had Port 1 and Port 2 controller ports). In the future, Enhanced and Restoration modes will have text like that updated properly.
This version doesn't quite look and/or sound like the version I played back in the 90s ...
There were two core versions of the Amiga computer line; ECS and AGA. Deluxe Galaga was released for both versions and the AGA got some graphical tweaks, under the hood changes and more. You probably played the ECS version. DG 2026 is based on the final shipped version of the AGA edition v2.6c. You may also be seeing changes made to Restoration / Enhanced mode. Go to Preservation mode for the most accurate edition of AGA v2.6c.
Can the Enhanced version be backported to the Amiga?
Probably not. The C code would have to be converted back to ASM and so many tweaks were done that I doubt it would run correctly even if someone put in all that effort. Sorry about that.
I've seen videos of people playing Two Players at the same time! How do I make that happen?
You're probably just hitting fire on the title screen. Use right and left to cycle through the various screens before starting the game. Should all make sense when you see Game Options.
Can I add my own music to the game?
Experimentally, yes. Put your music mods in:

Windows: %appdata%/Jet64ppdata\dgalaga\music
Linux: ~/.config/Jet64/appdata/dgalaga/music

Your music only appears in SHUFFLE or ALL IN modes. There is no way to choose just your song. Again, this is experimental and really needs a lot more testing. Hint: If you put a dozen copies of the same mod in that folder, your chances of getting it with SHUFFLE are pretty good.
My Steam Controller isn't working on Windows/web version?
The quick fix is to add the Deluxe Galaga EXE file to Steam as a non-Steam game and set the controller to the Community Layout with the (Deck Native) suffix. Don't use the other one floating around - that was for the Deck under emulation.
Is this just some emulator in a wrapper?
No, this is a proper recompile. The original assembly code was decompiled into C, then recompiled natively on each platform.

The G key isn't bringing me back to the blue first run screen to make changes to the modes. Help?
The G key doesn't work while inside the game play itself. Try it from the title screen or Game Options screen - BEFORE starting a game.
