First, what you need
Thanks to modern emulation, it is easy to play Deluxe Galaga on your PC. First, download this file:
- Deluxe Galaga (AGA Preconfigured) (.EXE Installer)
You will need an Amiga Kickstart 3.1 rom file. I cannot and will not provide this to you. The easiest way to get it is to buy a copy of Amiga Forever from Cloanto. They are the current legal owners of the property. Note: You will need the PLUS edition to get Kickstart 3.1.
Let’s get this puppy working
Run the EXE installer. Accept the defaults and let it install (there are no toolbars or other undesirables installed during this process – it is clean). Do not attempt to launch the game at the end of the installer – it will fail because you do not have the appropriate Kickstart file yet.
Put the Amiga Kickstart 3.1 ROM image KICK31.ROM file into the C:\Program Files (x86)\DeluxeGalaga\kickstarts folder, NOTHING can be ZIPped. It must be named kick31.rom.
From the Windows Start menu, look for the new Deluxe Galaga (WinUAE AGA Version) entry and run it.
Now, after a few moments – you will see a grey AMIGADOS screen and a notice that says LOADING DELUXE GALAGA …
Double click either WINDOWED or FULL SCREEN version – the game is the same, just how it is displayed is changed. Windowed mode is easier to get out of later.
Controls are ARROW KEYS and RIGHT CTRL. We’ve attempted to set up a controller for you, but you’ll probably need to configure yours within the emulator.
Once the game is loaded, you need only press the ‘fire’ button to begin play. You can also press different directions on the controller (before starting) to go to different menus to configure the game.
That’s it! That is all you need! To get out of the game screen, press Alt-F4, or press F12 to go to the emulator menu.

Common Problems
I get a flickering red screen and it goes black and then red again.
You have a bad or corrupted KICKSTART image (kickXX.ROM). Get a new one or try a different one. The MD5 of the one we’re using is: e40a5dfb3d017ba8779faba30cbd1c8e
I can move, but not fire!
Use the ARROW keys to move and the Right CTRL key to fire.
